“LG V 30” in the eyes of a TechAdict

First Look

The high-end smartphone market is currently dominated heavily by Samsung and Apple. While the LG G6 was meant to compete with the Galaxy S8, the LG V30 must compete with upgraded iterations from its competitors. The device is an evolution from the G6 and improves upon it in a few key areas. This makes the V30 one of the best devices for media consumption.

The Details

The design of the LG V30 is a refined version of the G6’s design. It features a bezel-less screen that covers almost the entire front of the phone. There is glass on both the front and back, which give the device a very nice feel. In terms of design, the V30 is one of the best phones in the market, especially if dislike the trend of notches on smartphones. The switch to an OLED screen gives the phone vibrant colors and great outdoor visibility. The LG V30 has standard 2017 flagship specifications. It has a Snapdragon 835 SoC, with an Adreno 540 and 4GB of RAM. While the Samsung Galaxy S9 uses the Snapdragon 845, both devices perform smooth and fluid enough that it’s hard to tell the difference. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on the backside, where it’s easy to reach and activate.

The high-fidelity audio experience is one of the things that is truly unique to the LG V30. The onboard speakers are fantastic, and the Quad DAC allows for great sound to be output through headphones. The camera of the LG V30 also packs an impressive number of features but the phone doesn’t have the best quality shooter on the market. Even with a single lens, the Pixel 2 can take better pictures.

Conclusion

While the LG V30 may not have the latest hardware and latest OS version, it is still a good phone. An Android Oreo update will likely come soon, and this phone is unique enough that you could overlook the dated hardware. If you’re looking for a phone to experience media and audio, the LGV30 may be your best bet.

Some users have reported that the V20 tends to randomly freeze or reboot, and they have also come across quite a few instances of lag. Another change that could result in a positive outcome is to turn off animations. This can be done by turning on dev mode and accessing the animations frequency in dev options.
