Welcome! We are TechAdict and this is “Tips to tantalize the Typer” where we simplify tech for everyone!

Today we will be exploring some of the most important everyday shortcuts.

Using shortcuts takes some time to get used to so to have a physical copy of these and keep them close to a workstation for reference. That will help you use the more. With enough practice and time shortcuts will become second nature. Keep on practicing.

Ctrl + A, or C, or V, or X

Copy, paste, cut, and select all

These are some of the most commonly used sets of shortcuts. They are used in almost any program within Windows 10 and previous versions. They also work on a Mac but the Ctrl button is replaced with someone else (command)

Ctrl + Z, or Y

Undo and Redo

This is yet another shortcut that is almost universal in programs across the operating system and most web apps.

With a simple shortcut undo your mistakes in documents, image editors, web apps, websites, and many other situations. It is often a deciding factor for us to choose one software over another.

Ctrl + P

Print from almost anywhere

With this super shortcut, you can print must screens or save them as a pdf. This shortcut works on browser pages, documents, database software, and most other software where you would need to print. The next time you need to print be sure to try it out

Ctrl + S

Save Save Save

When in doubt save it out. This shortcut will help you save like you never saved before. Get it done!

Alt magic

Just Alt

Just a plain Alt. This is a special shortcut that uncovers part of the operating system and/or software that was hidden. This hidden part is an assignment of characters to the different parts of the top ribbon within the software/program.

With these hidden elements revealed you can simply press any of the letters to open that level of the ribbon or activate that function/process (i.e. Save, print, exit)

Win + S

Need to find something quick

Win 10 comes equipped with an internet search function. It has some issues (like opening links only in Edge) but it is a good place to get quick info especially if it is info that is likely to show up in search results.

To activate this search simply press the windows button + S. Then start typing your search!
